Summit Lions Club Hosts Family Fun Festival

The Summit Lions Club held its inaugural Family Fun Festival at Lincoln-Hubbard School Saturday to raise funds for The Summit Lions site and welfare projects.

The Summit Lions Club held its inaugural Family Fun Day at The Lincoln-Hubbard School Saturday to raise money for their sight and wellfare projects. 

Families enjoyed carnival games with prizes, an interactive Discovery Center, a community art project, food catered by Anthony Ferrati and Erica Feraiso from The Towne Deli, and a free rock concert by The Chatham School of Rock's Street Team band.

Carnival games included Ring Toss, Conk the Crow, fishing for prizes, among others.

The community art project, facilitated by mural artist Toney Shiavo, allowed children to express their creative instincts by adding numerous colored swirls, lines and other shapes to the project which Shaivo said he plans to donate to the school.

Art Lima, Music Director of The Chatham School of Rock, presented his All Star Band of students who masterfully played many old favorites including: "Time," "Suffragette City," "Communication Breakdown," and "Sunshine of Your Love."  The set list was apprecitated by parents as evindenced by their smiles and heads nodding.  According to Art Lima, The Chatham School of Rock has over 260 kids as students as well as an adult class with 15 people currently enrolled.  The school, located at 60 Main Street in Chatham, provides individual instruction, jam sessions with other students and staff, and ultimately matches up students to perform gigs.

The weather improved after raining in the morning and families outside enjoyed a moonwalk, water based games, and interaction with The Summit Volunteer EMS Squad and The Summit Fire Department.

Fireman Ken Jenks and Lt. David Guida of The Summit Fire Department were on hand with their "Safety House," educating attendees on fire safety.  Fireman Ken Jenks conveyed he and his colleagues' strong commitment to maintaining the highest level of training and service to ensure the safety of Summit's residents. 

The Summit Lions Club's Family Fun Day was well attended and is likely to be the first of many more, providing a fun day for families and raising money for worthile causes.
