Summit To The Shore Concert, Greenmarket This Week

Plus, Shark Diddy's HoeDown is this Thursday and we'll bring you a feature about Home for Good Dog Rescue.

Mayor Ellen Dickson and Councilman Robert Rubino are hosting the Summit to the Shore Concert Event on Tuesday, 7 p.m. on Summit’s Village Green. Presented by Investors Bank and Overlook Medical Center, this concert supports the New Jersey Fireman’s Benevolent Association’s Sandy Ground Project. The FMBA has pledged to build 26 playgrounds in cities ravaged by Hurricane Sandy in NJ, NY and CT. These 26 playgrounds will be dedicated to the 26 lives lost in the school shootings in Newtown, Ct. Parrotbeach, a Jimmy Buffet Tribute Band, will perform during this free concert. Attendees are encouraged to wear the T-Shirt from their favorite Jersey Shore town.Firefighters from around the state are expected to attend. There will be 26 sand buckets available to accept donations. Cash, credit cards and checks will be accepted. Residents can also purchase something from the Sandy Ground Project Store. Home for Good Dog Rescue, Inc., a 501c3 non-profit organization based in Summit, recently sent three Junior Ambassadors to Georgia to visit animal shelters. Their project while there was to each pick a dog from a shelter, medicate and vaccinate the dog, and arrange transportation for each to New Jersey. The Ambassadors will now arrange their spay-neuter, place each dog in foster and see each dog through to their forever home. Check summit.patch.com later this week for our feature article about the Ambassadors’ journey to Georgia. 

The first-ever Summer Greenmarket opens this Thursday and will feature 13 farmers and purveyors. Located on Beechwood Road between Bank Street and Springfield Avenue, the market will be open from 3 to 8 p.m. each Thursday through Sept. 12, except for July 4. Check summitdowntown.org for a complete list of farmers and purveyors. This market was originally scheduled to open on June 27 but was postponed due to inclement weather. Shark Diddy’s HoeDown is scheduled for this Thursday at the Summit Family Aquatic Center, located at 100 Ashwood Ave. The event will take place from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Check summit.patch.com later this week for more details about this event.
