I really don't think there is a better school in town. We moved from Chatham to Summit, and I am so glad we found Cornerstone. After visiting many area schools- and my daughter (now in pre-k, aka "kindergarten prep") attended a daycare in the area, too- it was easy to tell that this school is giving the others a run for their money. The teachers are young (i.e., no burnout), smart, creative, and incredibly attentive to each child. The classrooms and playground are very new, and it is a warm and caring environment. My daughter has been here for a year and a half, and seems thrilled about school. No doubt that someday, when she has kids and is looking around for a preschool, she will really appreciate what she had here. I love that they get "live" music every day with a guitar or piano player!

I have twins who attend the pre-k program at Cornerstone school. They are full day students. Their pre-k program has both a structured component where the students work on themed projects as well as an opportunity for self directed learning where they can choose to spend time in any area of the classroom. There is a large playground where the kids get to run and play in the morning and the afternoon. During inclement weather they play downstairs in a large room - often playing games like freeze tag or duck, duck goose, or using hula hoops.

Their teacher emails us a weekly newsletter to let us know what they’re working on in the classroom as well as including names of books they will be reading, words to songs they are learning.

The environment is very personable. The teachers and the director of the school really take the time to get to know each of their students. I know my children are learning and being very well cared for while at school all day.

They have an excellent after care program in which all of the kids who stay go to the large art room. Some of the activities that the kids are involved in are: finger painting, playdo, using the large hollow blocks, book reading and music - we have teachers who play both the piano and guitar. My children are never quite ready to leave school when I come to pick them up.

Cornerstone is great. Every day I see the love of learning it has inspired in my daughter, now two and a half years old. She comes home with stories about books read, games played, and the theme that the class explored that week (be it shapes or families). She sings new songs and teaches us newly learned games. And she always surprises me with something new that she now knows. But even more than this, it’s great to see her being gently pushed to work on the social and emotional stuff. She has bonded really well with her teachers, who are very caring and have created a fun and imaginative curriculum. And the director—often in the classroom—really seems to recognize what's special about each kid. She strives to create a safe and welcoming environment that values diversity (something that was important to us, as a same-sex couple, in finding a school).

My son is 3 and he started at Cornerstone in June 2010. We had been at another facility in town since he was an infant and I was very nervous about making the switch. His transition was perfect. His teachers were caring, enthusiastic and made him feel so comfortable. I love the school environment. It is not as big and hectic as some of the other centers in town. It has been a wonderful experience for us and I recommend the school to any parent who is looking for a truly nurturing environment for their children.

I'm very happy with our experiences at Cornerstone. The teachers are positive, warm and supportive with the children. They create lessons and activities that are theme-based, so children can get excited and engaged around a specific topic. The activities are age-appropriate and fun, but they always have a specific learning objective. The facility is very nice, with big windows, a beautiful playground, and a great artroom.

Cornerstone's director, Marybeth Doctor has extensive experience with child development and education and leads the staff very well. Marybeth and the teachers have an amazing way with the children -- helping them find words for their emotions, helping them work through normal conflicts with other children, identifying learning opportunities in nearly every situation, and providing support for families.

I strongly recommend Cornerstone to any parents that are looking for preschool, pre-K, or Kindergarten in the Summit area.

The school is just ok. Not experienced staff and not a lot of activities to keep the young ones busy and active. My niece started going there and my sister is not sure if she wants to continue there. There are couple of other nice options in Summit area as well, but harder to get in.
