Summit Resident Crowned Miss T.E.E.N. New Jersey

Abby DePhillips will go on to compete in the Miss T.E.E.N. United States pageant.

Summit High School junior Abby DePhillips was recently crowned Miss T.E.E.N. New Jersey, earning the opportunity to compete for a national title at the upcoming Miss T.E.E.N. United States in Houston, Texas. The 17-year-old Summit junior will be participating in Monday's Summit Memorial Day celebration and parade. DePhillips hopes to help young children and serve as a role model, honoring the T.E.E.N - Teens Exemplifying Excellence Nationally - message of being articulate, intelligent, beautiful, and fun loving. DePhillips will participate in the national pageant from June 24-29 where she'll have the chance to win a $40,000 scholarship to Barclay College, a competition evening gown, clothing and accessories, and of course a a sash and …

Gov. Christie appeared at Seaside Heights boardwalk Friday to promote the Jersey Shore

The Jersey Shore is officially open for summer, Gov. Chris Christie said as he spent Friday morning in Seaside Heights promoting tourism in New Jersey.  Early Friday, Christie appeared on NBC's Today Show, which broadcast its morning news program live from Seaside Heights. The governor later cut a ceremonial ribbon—a Guinness World Record at over five miles long—to officially declare the shore open.  "It's an incredible day for New Jersey," Christie said in remarks. "I'm so thrilled that this morning we're here with the whole country welcoming the Jersey Shore back." Student Athletes Honored at Summit Boosters Banquet

The accomplishments of more than 300 Summit High School students were celebrated at the Grand Summit Hotel.

The Summit Boosters Association held the 27th annual Senior Athletes Banquet on Wednesday, May 21, at The Grand Summit Hotel. Over 300 students, coaches and parents gathered to celebrate the athletes' accomplishments on and off the playing fields.   The evening kicked off with the presentation of the Hilltopper Appreciation Award given to Jim Dietz, who retired last year from teaching at Summit High School after coaching football and basketball for over twenty years.  The award recognized Dietz's countless years of support to Summit athletics.  One-hundred forty-two student athletes from the 2013 graduating class received a plaque in recognition of their participation in a varsity sport as an athlete, manager or statistician.   The …

Police: Windshield Smashed at Oak Ridge Avenue Residence

Vehicle was parked outside of an Oak Ridge home at the time of the incident.

The windshield of a vehicle parked at an Oak Ridge Avenue residence was smashed with a large stone late Monday night, according to police.  Police responded to reports of criminal mischief at the Oak Ridge home at 11:27 p.m. after the damage was discovered. According to police, the windshield smashing believed to have taken place sometime between 9:15 p.m. and 11:15 p.m. No arrests have been made in connection with the incident.

Giving Patriotism a Lift

City employees installed flags throughout Summit streets Friday morning.

In advance of Memorial Day, Summit is showing its patriotic spirit by raising American Flags throughout its downtown. Friday morning, city employees were in the process of installing more than 50 flags on polls throughout the city's streets. Enlisting the help of a Department of Public Works truck outfitted with lift, employees made quick work of the project, making stops at intermediate light poles along Springfield Avenue and hoisting flags.

Summit Police to Open Doors to Residents

The department is hosting its second annual open house.

The Summit Police Department is hosting an upcoming open house to give residents an inside look at the inner workings and day-to-day operations of its local law enforcement agency.  The second annual open house is set for Sunday, June 9, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. The open house is the initiative of Chief Robert Weck, who encourages all Summit residents to stop by where they'll be able to take a tour of police headquarters and meet their local police officers. In addition to local officers, members of the Union County Emergency Response Team and Union County's SWAT team are expected to be in attendance, as well as the county's K-9 Unit.  Refreshments will be made available courtesy Summit's PAL board and children will be given an souvenir …
