Letter to the Editor: Washington School Second Grade Penny Drive

Laura Madden's second grade class is working to raise $1,000.

Dear Editor,   We would like to update you on our fundraising efforts to save the 1927 Chemical Fire Truck. Since last week we have raised atotal of $411.57! Our goal is to raise $1000 by this Friday, Jan. 20th. So we need your help!  Not only have we raised money, but, Coldwell Banker has joined in our effort to help us save the fire truck! You can now find decorated cans all around town to donate your extra change. This means the town goal is to raise $75,000 so that we can preserve part of Summit History, which is important to helping students learn about the community of Summit. Even though our efforts will end on Friday, Jan. 20th the Penny Drive around Summit will continue until Friday, Jan. 29th ending with the Summit LEGO Project …

Second Graders' Penny Drive Gets Boost From Coldwell Banker

Letter to the Editor: Save Fire Engine No. 1

Second graders at Washington School want to save a piece of Summit history.

Dear Editor, We are trying to save the old chemical fire truck in Summit, NJ.  We are doing a penny drive at Washington School in Ms. Madden’s class.  It is important because Chemical Engine No. 1 has seen a lot of Summit history.  It is from 1927.  We need to help because if nobody helps the fire truck it won’t be here anymore. The penny drive will be held from January 9th to January 20th. Please send all donations to Washington School attention 2M.  In order to save the fire truck the town needs to raise $75,000. This would cover the costs of a garage at the Carter House plus money to finance to restore the fire truck so it can run again. Every penny counts!! Checks could be made out to “Summit Historical Society” attention “Friends of …
