Summit UPS Store, Bonds of Courage Team Up For DVD Drive For Troops

Residents can drop off new and gently used DVDs at The UPS Store of Summit through Dec. 31, which will be shipped to troops overseas to watch during relaxation times.

Last January, The UPS Store of Summit, located at 55 Union Pl, held its first DVD Drive for the Troops. Antonietta LaVecchia, the store’s Manager, says that the original idea stemmed from wanting to do something special for their five year anniversary in Summit last year. “I wanted to thank the community and give back in some way,” she said. That’s when the idea was presented by Bonds of Courage, one of the area’s most valuable organizations, to work together for the DVD drive. Bonds of Courage is a 501 C(3) public charity serving active duty service members, post 9/11 veterans and their families. Bonds of Courage To Host 'Cycle for Courage' Fundraiser on Jan. 26

Fundraiser will be hosted at Summit Area YMCA and will benefit post-9/11 troops, veterans and their families. Register online at bondsofcourage.org.

Bonds of Courage is planning their 1st annual Cycle for Courage indoor cycling fundraiser, which will be hosted by the Summit Area YMCA on Jan. 26 from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. If you enjoy spin classes or cycling, you can Cycle for Courage to support our post-9/11 troops, veterans and their families at this fun event. In order to participate, you must register on line at bondsofcourage.org.  There will be three 45-minute spin classes led by professional instructors from the Summit Area YMCA. You may enroll in any or all classes for a tax deductible donation of $75 per class. Summit Brownie Troop Donates Cookies to Military

In partnership with Bonds of Courage, the troop from Franklin School donated over 100 boxes of Girl Scout cookies to GIs.

Summit  Brownie Troop 41121 from Franklin School posed with their Girl Scout cookie donations before sending them off to deployed local military troops. The move was in partnership with Bonds of Courage. The girls raised funds to send over 130 boxes of Girl Scout cookies!  In addition, each wrote letters and drew pictures to send with the boxes.   Sarah Lavin, Summit Girl Scouts Publicity

Bonds of Courage Celebrates Veterans in Fine Style

Summit salutes Vets.

It was a great evening in Summit on 11-11-11, Veterans Day, honoring the men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces. “From Oath to Home: An Evening to Honor Our Troops” was attended by both civilians and former and current service men and women who want the dedicated work of Bonds of Courage to continue. The night kicked off with a cocktail hour and a special active duty militaryfree raffle, among other activities for all. Lively entertainment was provided by the incredible USO Liberty Bells, and a formal posting of the colors by the Color Guard of the New Jersey National Guard prior to dinner.
