Summit High School alumni have been competing in the Thanksgiving Day clash for over 10 years now.
Editor's Note: This originally appeared on November 27, 2011. -- For the last ten years Pat Natale ’88 and Chris “Spinman” Spinner ’88 have gathered Summit High School alumni for everyone’s favorite pastime, Thanksgiving football. The two began the event a decade ago as a way to stay in touch with old teammates as well as Hilltoppers from different eras. The game also provides the alumni with an opportunity to line up and play with old teammates and friends on Tatlock Field. The Turkey Bowl’s official website offers players and fans of the game an opportunity to watch some humorous spots created by Natale and Spinner. Four different Hilltoppers picked up hat tricks in the Group 2 quarterfinals win.
Led by Caroline Cordrey’s five goal, two assist effort, Summit advanced in the NJSIAA Group 2 quarterfinals with a 20-10 win over Indian Hills on Thursday. The surging Hilltoppers have not scored less than 11 goals in any game throughout their now eight-game win streak. “We have a lot of momentum from our last few games,” Cordrey said. “Our team chemistry has been really great.” Kate Martino (4 G, 2 A), Catherine Pomeroy (3 G, 1 A) and Megan Paytas (3 G, 2 A) also picked up hat tricks in the ten-goal win.
