Recovery Update: Up to 1,000 Summit Residents to Remain Without Power This Week

YMCA on Maple will remain a shelter for residents.

This alert from the City of Summit is an update on storm recovery. It was released around 2p.m. JCP&L crews are in Summit today replacing poles and electrical lines in order to restore electric service to homes and businesses. Tomorrow another 1,100 customers are estimated to have power restored with meaningful progress over the coming days. JCP&L is reporting that while more of the community will have power as of tomorrow evening, as many as 1,000 customers in Summit will still be with out power as of Saturday. Due to the lowering temperatures, the City suggests you find shelter with friends, family or a neighbor who has heat and power.  When street-by-street estimates of power restoration are received from JCP&L, they will be posted on …

Who will represent us? A call to the mayor reveals that she is not up to the task. JCP&L spin doctors have convinced our mayor that posted restoration figures are fact. Anyone notice that no work was done yesterday, and that no workers are in the field today (Wed.)? Mayor Dickson does not believe that it is her role to challenge them, and hold them accountable. Funny that former mayor Glatt didn'…   more ›

Nearly 600 Without Power in Summit

A spokesman for Jersey Central Power and Light confirmed that there were 595 outages in the Hill City due to thunderstorms.

One thing most Summit residents have gotten used to in the past year is the fury of nature. Whether it's a snow storm two months too early or a powerful tropical storm that floods the streets. Today's rain storm, while short, brought its own problems. A day after 300 were left without power, nearly double the amount sat in homes without AC or television. Summit Patch reader Scott Ryan left a Facebook message "Over 600 people in summit with no power since 2p.m. in the Mountain Avenue — Primrose area," he wrote. A call to JCP&L confirmed that 595 customers were without power. "When you have thunder and lightening you get power outages," said spokesman Gerry Ricciardi. He couldn't confirm the cause of the outage, but said it was possible …

Safety Improvements Made to Power Substation

JCP&L crews install new circuit breaker at Briant Park substation.

Earlier this year, Jersey Central Power & Light announced that it would invest nearly $200 million in 2012 to improve service reliability and help meet the increasing demand for electricity in its service area.   In the Summit area, JCP&L crews installed a new circuit breaker at the Briant Park substation. Circuit breakers, automatically disconnect power in the event of a fault, to prevent equipment damage. JCP&L workers are pictured preparing the new circuit breaker to be connected.    By Ron Morano, First Energy Corp. For more information on JCP&L, visit the website here.
