Young Oak Knoll Artist Chosen As Winner in UC Poster Contest

Fourth-grader Samantha Parelli's drawing was one of 12 winning entries in Union County's 'My County' poster contest.

Fourth-grader Samantha Parelli of Madison was recently chosen as one of 12 winners of the annual “My County” poster contest sponsored by the constitutional officers of Union County. The contest is held each year to promote awareness of the work accomplished throughout Union County. Fourth graders, who study the State of New Jersey according to the NJ Core Curriculum Standards, are invited to design a poster for the contest. The design and content of the poster are at the discretion of the student, although the theme of the poster must center on Union County. This year, more than 200 entries were submitted from Union County schools — including 34 from Oak Knoll — and Samantha’s poster was chosen as one of 12 finalists. Samantha received the…

Welsh Scholarship Available to Summit Young Women

Students and former students of Oak Knoll, Kent Place and SHS are welcome to apply for the Beverly Jeanne Welsh Scholarship.

The following information was provided by Kent Place School. Applications for the Beverly Jeanne Welsh Scholarship Fund will be available through the guidance offices at Kent Place School, Oak Knoll School and Summit High School beginning April 1. The Welsh Scholarship is open to young women who demonstrate financial need, who are permanent residents of Summit, NJ, and who currently attend or have graduated from one of these Summit high schools. It is available to students who will either enter college this fall, are currently enrolled as undergraduates, or who have completed an undergraduate degree and are seeking assistance for graduate or professional study. Summit Student Performs At Carnegie Hall

Andrew Pulver of Oak Knoll School of the Holy Child performed at Carnegie Hall winning third place in the Audray Competition.

Oak Knoll fifth-grader Andrew Pulver performed “Ave Maria” at Carnegie Hall in New York City earlier this month winning third place out of 10 finalists in the Audray Competition for Young Singers. Pulver, 11, was awarded a full scholarship at the Audray School for his performance in the Audray Competition. Pulver will study operetta/musical theatre every Saturday for an entire year at the Audray School in New York City at Lincoln Center. The Carnegie Hall performance took place in Weill Recital Hall, which Pulver said had great acoustics. “My voice rang through the entire hall,” he said. “It was very exciting.” Pulver studies voice and piano with Lali Giorgadez and also studies voice with acclaimed opera singer Maria Todaro. Oak Knoll Participates in Hurricane Sandy Relief Efforts

Students, staff, Alumnae Association collected items for storm victims.

  Oak Knoll School students, faculty, staff, parents, and alumnae/i all participated in Hurricane Sandy outreach projects to aid those in need after the unprecedented storm hit the tri-state area this fall. Hurricane Sandy devastated much of the Jersey Shore and nearby Staten Island on Oct. 29 when it made landfall as a post-tropical cyclone. The storm, exacerbated by higher tides from a full moon, caused massive destruction, leaving many New Jerseyeans without homes this winter. Catherine Bonner, Class of 2014 organized a coat drive for the Jersey Shore residents and personally delivered 215 coats and another 25 shoes, scarves, hats, and gloves to Monmouth Beach Borough Hall on Dec. 15.
