Mayor, Residents Talk Sandy, Power Issues At Summit Town Hall Meeting

City officials, residents say improving JCP&L infrastructure, burying power lines, taking over utilities are ways to prepare for future storms, like Sandy, that are bound to hit area.

Dozens of residents met with Mayor Ellen Dickson and key city officials in Council Chambers on Tuesday night to discuss the effects of Superstorm Sandy and ways to handle future storms. Many residents expressed their thoughts and concerns with JCP&L throughout the informal gathering, which Dickson dubbed as a “power issues” town hall meeting. Numerous community members cited JCP&L’s lack of communication, disorganization and outdated infrastructure as key reasons why residents had to suffer through lengthy power outages in the city after Sandy, and following Irene and the October Snowstorm in 2011. JCP&L is no longer a NJ company since they were taken over by First Energy of Ohio. When I called JCP&L's 800 number for power status, none of the the JCP&L phone reps were from NJ. Reps were from out of state telephone call centers (PA, W.VA, Ohio). They were clueless and could not provide any worthwhile information. One JCP&L rep from West Virginia with a heavy W.
