New Police Chief Says Summit is Safe

Weck, who stepped into the role of chief shortly before two pedestrians died in separate accidents, said that while these events shook the city’s residents, they can be assured the police are dedicated to keeping Summit safe.

Summit Gets New Top Cop

Police Chief Robert Weck will be publicly sworn in on Tues, Oct. 18.

A Summit Police Department lieutenant was appointed this week by Mayor Jordan Glatt to take the helm as police chief at a private ceremony at Summit City Hall. Robert Weck, a 23-year veteran of the department succeeds former Police Chief Robert Lucid who resigned this summer to become head of sercurity at Drew University. Among Chief Weck's priorities is to strengthen ties with the citizens of Summit.  "I believe that it is critical for the success of the police department to form a strong partnership with the community; and one of my first priorities will be to form a Community Relations Board that will include representatives of all of the community’s stakeholders," he said in a statement. I've been a Summit resident for more than 40 years and remember when I used to see policemen "walking the beat" when I went shopping with my wife. I haven't seen them in the last couple of years and they will be a welcome sight. They were always so friendly and helpful and we always felt safe when we saw them.
