Junior Enrica Fabricant at the Top of Her Game as Summit Softball Sits Undefeated

The junior holds a .714 batting average during her first season since moving back to Summit from California.

  Junior Enrica Fabricant is playing for the Summit Varsity Softball team in her first year since moving back from California. Fabricant told Patch she has been performing really well this season with a .714 batting average. Fabricant, who most call “Kicca,” said that Monday’s game against Elizabeth’s Benedictine Academy was probably one of her best games ever. She stated that she hit a homerun in the first inning, had a few great catches and threw the ball well from her shortstop position. The Summit Varsity Softball team currently has an undefeated record of 6-0, with wins against Roselle, Roselle Catholic, Plainfield, St. Mary, Dover and Benedictine. Tasha Kewalramani: Receiving NJSIAA Scholar Athlete Award “Blows My Mind”

The senior holds a 4.548 GPA and is captain of the Summit High School varsity swimming, tennis and softball teams.

  Senior Tasha Kewalramani was named this year’s NJSIAA scholar athlete as she holds a 4.548 GPA and is captain of the Summit High School swimming, tennis and softball teams. Since she was very young, Kewalramani said athletics were ingrained in her.  However, she added that balancing school and athletics each season is tough. “I love the work,” she said. “I love the challenge.” In addition to the three sports at Summit High School, Kewalramani has also been a member of the Summit Seals since eighth grade. She added that swimming is her favorite sport because she is the best at it. She holds the school record for the 100 breast and 200 Medley relay. She also placed 2nd in the county for the 100 breast and 3rd in the county for first …

Coach Walsh Looks Ahead to Girls’ Lax First Season Game Against Ridgewood

The team begins the season against the strong Ridgewood Girls’ Lacrosse team on April 2.

  Coach Mike Walsh has been coaching Girls’ Lacrosse, “since the dawn of time,” he said, but he has been the head coach of the Summit Girl’s Lacrosse team for two years.  Walsh has also been involved in the youth level of coaching in Summit, as well as coach of other high school girls’ lacrosse teams.  One of his favorite aspects of coaching is being able to see his students in a different light, he said. The Summit Girls' Lacrosse team has won the Union County tournament four years in a row and last season the team placed second in their division. Veteran Summit Coach Peter Tierney Prepares Boys' Tennis for 2013 Season

Peter Tierney has been coaching in Summit for 42 years. He is now preparing the Boys' Varsity Tennis team for the upcoming season.

Peter Tierney has been coaching Summit sports for the past 42 years and just three years ago he began coaching the Boys' Varsity Tennis team. Tierney said he has several long term goals for the team, but right now they are working on putting together a starting team. Last year, the team placed second in counties but lost in the state sectionals. In 2011, the team took home the win in the state sectionals. “It was really good for the kids they were so thrilled because when you don’t think you’re going to do something and then you do it, it’s great” Tierney said. “They learned how to compete.” The Boys' team has been praciting for the 2013 season through the snow, rain and cold to prepare for their first match on April 2. Coach Groskoph: Coaching Summit Sailing is a Dream Come True

The Summit Sailing team officially became a varsity sport this January, but has quickly grown from five sailors to 27 sailors.

Coach John Groskoph said he never said yes to anything so quickly in his life until his oldest son Jake asked him to coach the Summit Sailing team. A sailor his entire life, Groskoph said having the opportunity to coach the team was a dream come true. "The best part of coaching is seeing them grow as sailors and as a team," he said. The Summit Sailing Team officially became a varsity sport this January, but has been around since 2010. Five Summit students created the team, which has now grown to 27 members. The original members include: Will Berkery, Will Elia, Jake Groskoph, Amy Macdonald and Tyler Macdonald. Also, Alex Guior joined pretty early on, Groskoph added. This is a look at the highlights of Summit sports for 2012.

February 19, 2012 – AJ Iarussi Wins 195 lb District Championship AJ Iarussi took first place in the 195 lb weight class of the NJSIAA District 10 tournament in February. He defeated Madison wrestler Nick Haboj, 3-1. Iarussi was one of three Summit wrestlers who placed at the top for the district. March 5, 2012 – Hilltoppers Swim Team Close Season in Style at Meet of Champions The Summit High School Swim Team set four school records at the 2012 Meet of Champions. In the 200 medley relay Loring Bowen, Ryan Sebastian, Cameron Simko and Will Beckett swam a season best 1:37.12 to lower their school record from the Union County Championships.
