Have you heard? A dynamic new cable show will join the HTTV community lineup of programming for Summit and area residents. The show’s host, Marianne DeSantis, a Summit resident and parent, leads conversation among panels of Summit parents, students, and alumni discussing the show’s topic, which is then offered to experts for insights and guidance. Real, meaningful conversation — no scripts! The first show — “Underage Drinking” — will kick off with a live premiere on Thursday, Jan. 17 at MONDO, located 426 Springfield Ave. There will be two showings that evening at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. (A donation of $10 for adults and $5 for students is suggested.) Nearly a quarter million dollars was awarded to local nonprofit agencies by the Summit Area Public Foundation over the summer. The grants will support efforts on behalf of people with special needs and the elderly, along with education, health, civic, and arts programs. Summit Area Public Foundation (SAPF) is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization based in Summit. It fosters philanthropy in the Summit area by identifying local needs and offering donors flexible ways to make a difference in the lives of their neighbors. The largest share of the grants will support special needs programs. The Board of Trustees of the Summit Area Public Foundation, which provides funds to support work of non-profit agencies in Summit and surrounding communities, has awarded a $2,500 grant to The Metropolitan Orchestra of New Jersey. After three successful years in Millburn-Short Hills, the Metropolitan Orchestra of New Jersey will begin its 41st season. The orchestra, a full symphonic community ensemble under the direction of Conductor and Artistic Director, Michael Stratechuk, will open its three concert season on December 2, 2012 with an all- Dvořák program. Supporting a variety of civic and educational programs, the Summit Area Public Foundation has awarded almost $43,000 to three organizations that provide services in the region. Bridges, a Summit-based group that serves the homeless, has recived $12,640 to support its outtreach programs and to purchases clothing and school supplies for homeless families. Summit Area Public Foundation (SAPF) is a donor-supported 501(c)(3) charitable foundation that provides funding to nonprofit agencies serving people in the Summit area. As part of its program of funding arts in the region, Summit Area Public Foundation has awarded more than $25,000 in grants to six local organizations. The grants will support a variety of programs, which include free lunchtime concerts at Central Presbyterian Church in Summit and a mid-day cabaret series by Dreamcatcher Repertory Theater at the Connection. Young artists will also benefit. SAPF awarded grants to the Summit Symphony, for its 2012 Young Artist Competition and Concert, and to the local Teen Arts Festival to help fund stipends for professionals who comment on the work of budding local artists.
