The following information was provided by the Summit Police Department. March 4, 2013: At 7:01 p.m. police received a report of criminal mischief at a school of dance on Morris Avenue. The glass section of the front door was broken sometime between March 1 and March 3, 2013. March 5, 2013: At 11:53 p.m. Brodders, Derrick, Eugene, 40, of Florham Park was arrested on Route 24 West for Driving While Intoxicated and Careless Driving. March 5, 2013: At 11:37 a.m. police received a report of criminal mischief at a Broad Street business. A rock thrown was through front window sometime during the night. Summit Police made a few arrests between Feb. 19 and Feb. 22. Taylor S. Madden and Jonathan Bendarsky, two 18-year-old New Providence residents, were arrested on Feb. 22 at Doremus Street for Possession of 50 Grams or Less Marijuana. Other arrests include: Lamarkus Derell, a 30-year-old Irvington resident, was arrested at Rt. 24 West and JFK Parkway on Feb. 19 for Driving While Suspended, Hindering Apprehension or Presecution DPO — Harbors or Conceals the Other, and Contempt of Court. Maria T. Collantes-Torres, a 20-year-old Summit resident, was arrested on Feb. 19 at Denman Place and Broad Street for Driving While Suspended. Summit Police recently handled a report of burglary and theft from a residence on Van Dyke Place, which occurred on Feb. 21 between 9:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Items that were reported missing include a pendant valued between $300 and $400, and a Samsung Digital Camera valued at $100. Other reported incidents include: Feb. 19 Summit Police handle a report of Malicious Mischief to a Colt Road residence, which occurred sometime between 3 p.m. on Feb. 14 and 7:00 a.m. Feb. 19. The front window of the residence was found broken. There was a reported theft of license plates from a vehicle parked in a DeForest Avenue parking lot. Summit Police are investigating three reported thefts that occurred on Saturday, Feb. 16. According to the reports, cash was stolen from three wallets that were located at a private club on Hobart Avenue. The thefts occurred between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. and the amounts stolen were $50, $50 and $250. Summit Police also made two arrests on Sunday, Feb. 17. Larry Devon Taylor, a 29-year-old Newark resident, was arrested at 1:35 a.m. at Springfield Avenue and Hobart Avenue for Driving While Suspended and Contempt of Court. Twenty five minutes later, Jose Gilberto Guaman-Lema, a 26-year-old resident of Bronx, NY, was arrested at Glenside Avenue for Hindering Apprehension and Prosecution 3rd Degree – Harbors or Conceals the Other. Summit Police handled four incidents between Feb. 5 and Feb. 6, 2013. Feb. 5 At 9:30 a.m., a theft of $380 cash from a purse was reported. The purse was left in the Summit Community Center lobby between 8:35 a.m. on Feb. 4 and 8 a.m. on Feb. 5. A burglary at a residence on Doremus Street, which occurred during the evening of Feb. 4, was reported to police. At this time, nothing has been reported missing. Vincent H. Soenarie, a 36-year-old Ridgefield Park, NJ resident, was arrested on Rt. 24 West at 2:41 p.m. for Driving While Suspended and Contempt of Court. Summit Police recently handled two reported thefts of iPhones as well as numerous arrests throughout the city. The Summit Police Department has announced the dates for the 2013 session of its Youth Academy. The academy will be running two, one-week long sessions, one from July 15 to 19, the other from July 29 to Aug. 2, 2013, both of which will be held at the Summit Police Department, located at 512 Springfield Ave. Classes will run from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily. This will be the ninth season of this increasingly popular program, designed to provide area youths with the opportunity to gain an understanding of the role of the police officer. While other youth academy programs provide a day camp setting, the Summit Police Youth Academy has been modeled after today’s police academy. Items stolen from vehicles include insurance cards, vehicle registration, GPS, baby bouncer seat, iPod Touch and gift cards, among others.
There were numerous thefts from vehicles reported to Police in Summit last week. On Jan. 25, there was a reported theft of insurance cards, an owner’s manual and vehicle registration from a vehicle parked in a residential driveway on Beechwood Road. The theft occurred between 5 p.m. on Jan. 24 and 8:45 a.m. on Jan. 25. Also on Jan. 25, a baby bouncer seat, valued at $49, and a Garmin GPS were reported stolen from a vehicle parked on Morris Avenue between 7 p.m. on Jan. 24 and 9 a.m. on Jan. 25. On Jan. 26, there was a report of unlawful entry to two vehicles, which were parked at a residence on Wade Drive. This occurred between 9:30 p.m. on Jan. 25 and 9:30 a.m. on Jan. 26. Summit Police recently handled reported thefts in the city, among other incidents. On Jan. 14 at 12:30 p.m., there was a reported theft of an Apple iPhone 4S from a Union Place bagel shop bathroom, which occurred sometime between 10:40 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. On Jan. 17 at 5:54 p.m., there was a theft of a razor scooter reported. The scooter was left outside the Summit Library between 4:40 and 5 p.m. Two days later, a report of theft of 32 rings valued at $5,115 was made from a Morris Avenue Antique Shop. The theft was made sometime between Jan. 17 and 18.
