Celia Colbert became vice president; Katherine Kalin and James Freeman were sworn in to new terms.
The Summit Public Schools Board of Education selected Gloria Ron-Fornes as its new president during its reorganization meeting Thursday. Ron-Fornes follows outgoing President George Lucaci, according to the district's Web site. Flanked by her husband and sons, Ron-Fornes' first order of business was to ask the board to lead the district with respect and dedication, the site stated. Celia Colbert became vice president, a position previously held by Ron-Fornes. Katherine Kalin was reappointed to a new term on the board. James Freeman joined the governing body for his first term in a seat previously held by Lucaci.

Superintendent Nathan Parker and Business Administrator Louis Pepe will present the proposed budget at the Summit Board of School Estimate's meeting on Mar. 7.
The Summit School District will not receive any additional state aid than it did last year, according to the NJ Department of Education, which released state aid numbers Thursday afternoon. While the proposed Fiscal Year 2014 Budget released today represents the largest appropriation of K-12 education dollars in the state's history, state aid to the District of Westfield for 2013-14 will total $1,525,733, a zero percent increase from the 2012-2013 figure. The Board of Education honored newly tenured staff and celebrated the silver anniversary of another.
At last night's Summit Board of Education meeting, nearly a dozen teachers from the elementary school to the high school were honored with tenure positions. Other public schools staffers were recognized for working 25 years in the district.
