Summit First Aid Squad Helps With Successful Turkey Drive

Other Fellow First Foundation's food drive boosts collection for Community Food Bank of New Jersey.

One would think on their day off that the Summit Volunteer First Aid Squad might curl up in front of a fire on Sunday afternoon and watch the Giants or the Jets game.   Not in Summit.   This past Sunday, an army of Rescue Squad volunteers, of all ages showed up to help the Other Fellow First Foundation conduct its 5th annual turkey drive on the Sunday before Thanksgiving in front of the Summit Diner.  Kathleen DiChiara, President of the Community Food Bank of New Jersey, who received the fruits of the successful drive, said, "most of the other turkey drives throughout the state were experiencing lower results when measured against last year.   However, Summit was a notable exception.  In three hours, Summit's results this year were 13 …

AAA New Jersey predicts about 1 million residents of the Garden State will travel 50 miles or more this holiday weekend.

About one million N.J. residents and 43.3 million Americans will travel 50 miles or more this Thanksgiving weekend, AAA New Jersey predicts. The impact of Hurricane Sandy is still uncertain, especially in the mid-Atlantic and northeast regions. Cathleen Lewis, the director of Public Affairs for AAA New Jersey, said, "While many residents [of New Jersey] may cancel travel plans, many others may change travel plans to accommodate or assist displaced friends and family." Summit Youth Help Out With Church Food Drive

Central Presbyterian Church collects food for organizations such as SHIP and Nuevas Fronteras.

On Sunday, Nov. 18, Middle Schoolers at Summit's Central Presbyterian Church organized a canned food drive benefiting SHIP (Summit Helping Its People) and Nuevas Fronteras Soup Kitchen in Plainfield.   Central Presbyterian supports both these community partners throughout the year with Middle School and High School congregants working on-site as kitchen and serving staff once per month.
