Summit PD Says Stay Off the Roads

Tractor-trailer accident on 78 attributed to snow, police and fire department say snow-covered roads are very dangerous right now.

Please avoid non essential travel," said a Nixle alert from Summit police just after 8p.m. A nor'easter that's passing through the region is making road conditions dangerous. "The roads are pretty bad," said Deputy Fire Chief Eric Evers. He said the department has already answered a few calls of downed wires, but a top concern at the moment is the roads. Winter Storm Athena To Bring Rain, Snow, Strong Wind

Governor Christie said nor'easter expected to slow the recovery from Hurricane Sandy. Winter weather advisory is in effect.

Athena is at the door. Winter Storm Athena has forced a winter weather advisory for much of North Jersey, with the National Weather Service forecasting snow, sleet and rain for Wednesday and a snowy mix for Thursday. Temperatures are expected to be at, or just below, freezing Wednesday and in the low 40s on Thursday. The winter weather advisory is in effect until 6 a.m. Thursday, and 60mph wind gusts could blow over much of the area. The Weather Channel is predicting that the “subtle” system will strengthen as it moves up the coast.
