Andy Smith is a local attorney at his firm Smith + Schwartzstein LLC and the former Vice Chairman of the Summit Republican City Committee who is running for Union County Freeholder.

Andy is an attorney who started his own successful law practice, Smith + Schwartzstein LLC, in 2009, after working at one of New Jersey’s largest law firms, Gibbons P.C.

Prior to attending law school at Boston College Law, Andy spent four years in the United States Army, Field Artillery, serving overseas in Bosnia-Herzegovinian and Korea and rising to the rank of Captain. Andy has been very active in his community since moving to Summit in 2006, serving on the Summit Health Board, being elected Vice Chairman of the Summit Republican City Committee, and serving as the Adjutant General of American Legion Post #322, among other civic activities.

Andy lives in Summit with his wife Kathryn, his four-year old son Gavin, two-year old daughter Charlotte, and one-year old son Matthew.

Biography

Andy is an attorney who started his own successful law practice, Smith + Schwartzstein LLC, in 2009. Andy’s practice is focused on civil litigation in State and Federal Court in New Jersey and New York. Andy is also a baseball agent. Andy’s experience starting and running a small business gives him insight into the needs of small businesses and the role of government in their survival and prosperity. Small business prosperity brings jobs and residents into the County enhancing the culture and quality of life of the communities.

Between college at Rochester Institute of Technology and law school at Boston College Law, Andy served for four years as an Artillery Officer in the United States Army deploying to overseas locations such as Bosnia and South Korea and rising to the rank of Captain. In his four years in the Army, Andy was in charge of as many as 63 soldiers, responsible for up to$3.1 million in equipment, and managed a $400,000 budget. This leadership experience was invaluable, and he plans to rely on these leadership and managerial skills as a Freeholder of Union County Chosen Board of Freeholders.

After law school, Andy clerked for the Honorable Sybil R. Moses, A.J.S.C. before joining the business and commercial litigation department of Gibbons P.C. in 2005. Andy has interned for the Rochester District Attorney’s office and the Department of Justice, Bureau of Prisons, Metropolitan Correction Center in New York, New York.

Andy’s civic activities include Vice Chairman, Summit Republican City Committee (June 2008-June 2010); Board Member, Summit Board of Health; Adjutant General, American Legion Post#322; Member, Cogden-Overlook Lodge; Member, Summit Elks; and father of three.
