I'm certainly not the final word on parking. Here are my observations. Summit has a special challenge. Lots of daytime employees and visitors/shoppers and a shortage of parking spaces-documented by several parking studies. A vocal group of residents consider parking to be a threat to everything they hold dear. The City has done a poor job of managing the parking authority and has been ineffective at offering solutions. Business interests are frustrated by a lack of progress over the years. Options: Privatize the system and contract with professionals. Build a parking facility/structure of about 300 space on or near downtown lot to be paid by parking users. Eliminate the so called free parking provision as it corrupts the proper use of the system and cause excessive and negative enforcement practices. There are other details to look at but that is my overview. Thanks for asking.

Robert,

What exactly is your opinion on creating a downtown parking garage in Summit. My family owns large mixed used buildings in NY and NJ (not in Summit). I'm just curious what the exact facts are concerning the garage.
