Summit's National Night Out, Screen On The Green This Week

Here's a look at what's happening around Summit this week.

Summit’s “National Night Out” is set for this Tuesday on the Village Green from 6 to 9 p.m. There will be activities, games, food vendors and demonstrations by local and national emergency services agencies throughout the night. There will also be a “Dunk-a-Cop” tank, which will benefit Brooke Healey, a 4-year-old New Providence girl battling an inoperable brain tumor. Read more about this annual event on Summit Patch this Monday.

Summit’s Board of Adjustment will meet Monday at 7:30 p.m. in Council Chambers. There are three public hearings on the agenda, which can be viewed here: http://www.cityofsummit.org/filestorage/8242/8439/8441/8820/16003/ZB_08-05-2013.pdf

The Summit Department of Community Programs “Screen on the Green” was postponed from last Thursday to this Monday due to inclement weather. Beginning at 8 p.m. on the Village Green with a Dance Party, “Rise of the Guardians” will begin at dusk. Santa will be there and snow will be made for the event.

“Screen on the Green” will also continue its normal schedule this Thursday when “Somewhere in Time” will be screened. This is a romantic, adults-only film with Christopher Reeve. There will be a photo booth with Victorian costumes to put on to take pictures, and a dance party. The festivities begin at 8 p.m. on the Village Green.

Summit’s Summer Greenmarket will be open this Thursday from 3 to 8 p.m. on Beechwood Road between Bank Street and Springfield Avenue. This market, which features 13 farmers and purveyors and will be open through Sept. 12, opened last Thursday with a ribbon cutting ceremony. Check summitdowntown.org for a complete list of farmers and purveyors. This market was originally scheduled to open on June 27 but was postponed due to inclement weather.
