Summit Boys' Swim Team Clinches First State Title in School History


For the first time in school history, the Summit Boys’ Swim Team clinched the State Championship over Moorestown, 88-82, in February at The College of New Jersey.

Board of Ed Appoints Davidson As Boys Basketball Head Coach


Summit High School now has a new head coach for the boys varsity basketball team, and he’s no stranger to residents.

Jim Davidson, a guidance counselor and boys varsity lacrosse coach at Summit High School, was recommended for the position to the Board of Education by Superintendent Nathan Parker at a special meeting. The board approved the appointment, 6-0, and Davidson will step into his new coaching role on July 1, 2013.


Summit Schools Ban Unannounced Parent Visits


In a letter sent to district parents in mid-July, Superintendent Nathan Parker said parents will no longer be able to drop in “unannounced” to visit their children or drop off any forgotten items beginning in September. Students will get IOUs if they forgot their lunch, but will suffer the consequences for forgotten classroom supplies and assignments.

Full Day, Tuition-Based Kindergarten Approved by Board of Ed


In mid-October, the Summit Board of Education voted to approve a pilot full-day, tuition-based kindergarten program for the 2014-2015 school year. The vote came down to five members voting for it and two against. James Freeman and Richard Hanley cast the dissenting votes.

Four senior scholar-athletes signed National Letters of Intent to play Division I girls lacrosse on National Signing Day on November 13.

Oratory Prep Shuts Out Newark Academy in State Semis


Oratory Prep's varsity soccer team blanked Newark Academy, 3-0, Tuesday in Livingston to win the semifinal round of the NJSIAA Non Public B State Tournament.

Summit High School Assistant Principal Anthony Akey, who has spent more than three decades in the Summit school district, resigned his position, effective Jan. 31, 2014. 

Summit Football Caps Perfect Season With Second Straight State Title


Summit High School’s football team entered the championship game, held in December at Kean University, football game just one win away from a perfect season and 24 straight victories over two years.
