Full Day, Tuition-Based Kindergarten Approved by Board of Ed


The Summit Board of Education voted to approve a pilot full-day, tuition-based kindergarten program for the 2014-2015 school year. The vote came down to five members voting for it and two against. James Freeman and Richard Hanley cast the dissenting votes. 

Summit Woman Struck by Car Crossing Broad Street


A Summit woman, 50, en route to the bus stop Tuesday morning was crossing Broad Street from the corner of Maple Street when she was struck by a car traveling south on Maple, according to NJ.com. 


Free Parking in Summit For Small Business Saturday


The Summit Common Council approved Tuesday a request from Summit Downtown, Inc. to offer free parking throughout the city on Saturday, Nov. 30, also known as Small Business Saturday


School Lobby to be Named in Honor of Former Student Santiago Daniel Abut


Daniel and Sonia Abut received a standing ovation from all who attended the Thursday's meeting of the Summit Board of Education.

The Abuts made a donation for an undisclosed amount to the district to be used for the restoration of the Lawton C. Johnson auditorium lobby. As such, the family has been given the naming rights, which they will use to pay tribute to the memory of their son, Santiago Daniel Abut.


Summit Backs Booker in U.S. Senate Race

Newark Mayor Corey Booker won election to the U.S. Senate Wednesday, defeating Steve Lonegan in the race to replace the late Sen. Frank Lautenberg.

Summit voters in both Ward I and Ward II supported Booker. In unofficial results, the new U.S. senator topped his opponent, 1011 to 772 votes in Ward I, and 1133 to 865 votes in Ward II.
